Preschool Routine
9:00am – 9:05am Welcome and Arrival
Families are welcomed. A quiet reading space and staff are available to support children in their transition into the classroom. Sunscreen is supplied for parents to apply to their children. Children are supported to independently organise their belongings for the day by both staff and parents.
9:05am - 9:15am Belonging Circle Check In
Whole group check in time that focuses on our acknowledgement of country, greeting our friends and a wellbeing check in to see how we are all feeling and talk about ways we can support our friends in need. We sing our greeting songs and warm up our bodies with brain gym.
9:15am – 9:30am Fine Motor Skills
An intentional activity that focuses on developing children’s fine motor skills and school readiness skills such as cutting, gluing, sorting, name writing etc.
9:30am – 9:40am Crunch n Sip Break
Children are encouraged to eat either fruit or vegetables to fuel their bodies for outdoor play. During our shared eating time we also discuss core gross motor curriculum activities that are available during outdoor play and children are encouraged to co-construct additional activities or resources of their choice.
9:40am – 11:15am Outdoor Child Centred Play
Children are encouraged to lead their own play with the available activities. Educators are on hand to support children in their social interactions with peers where needed and to extend and expand on their learning through play. Projects may also occur during this time.
11:15am- 12:00pm Lunch
12:00pm – 12:20pm Sleep / Rest / Quiet time
Children are guided through a range of short mindfulness, rest and yoga activities as soon as they transition inside. Children then have the option to sleep or rest during this time if feeling tired or they may engage in quiet activities such as puzzles or reading a book.
12:20pm – 12:40pm Small Group Time
Whole group intentional teaching time that uses texts or resources to introduce and facilitate the development of early language, literacy, literature, math, wellbeing/social, creative arts and science concepts. Topics are based on children’s emerging interests, school readiness skills and strengths in literacy and math or our visual arts, wellbeing and cultural inclusion programs.
12:40pm – 1:45pm Indoor Child Centred Play
Children have choice’ of our range of indoor core curriculum activities that have been designed to meet their individual strengths, needs and learning styles and to foster their growth in a range of developmental areas. Projects may also occur during this time.
1:45pm – 2:00pm Afternoon Tea
2:00pm- 3:00 pm Environmental Outdoor Play/ Music and Movement time (Flexible)
Children play and explore in our outdoor natural front garden. We use this time to explore the natural world and take measured safe risks in nature play.
Alternatively Educators engage children in a variety of music and games that promote beginning skills in rhythm, melody, tempo and foster a love of music and rhymes. The games allow children to develop team building skills, turn taking skills and early literacy skills that enrich their social development.
